𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆:

The Biting Panties were born when I first became a mother. There are no guidelines for the difficult aspects of motherhood, so I turned to the power of art to come to terms with my new role and self. I needed something that would help me process this new experience. Painting panties was also very practical, because I could put them away when my baby needed me, and continue later.

Like most women and free thinkers, I've felt othered by patriarchal and capitalist social structures and the ignorance they breed. Many aspects of our physical and psychological processes and experiences are still taboo, as is abuse and reproductive rights.

Menstruation is supposed to be a shameful secret, motherhood is somehow supposed to happen automatically, and menopause is seen as the time when women go crazy because of aging and losing their sex appeal. Can you believe that the clitoris wasn't even studied until the past decades?

I wasn't prepared that it was normal for a new mother to feel angry or depressed, or that a first birth in later years could trigger peri-menopause.

In the process of creating the Biting Panties collection, I saw how the system we live in has formatted the suppression of the feminine within me – all of us actually, irregardless of gender. The quintessence of that healing process has been the recognition of our connection with everything around.

I believe that remembering that we are communal beings, woven from the same sacred thread of life, is medicine for today's burning world. It's the gift of our mothers, grandmothers and ancestresses, without whose abused wombs we wouldn't be here.

And I also discovered aspects in me which needed to be released, the rage, sadness, and self determination transmuted into a prayer of love through artistic expression.

Creating and wearing the Biting Panties helped me find my own fierce power at the center of my deepest vulnerability.

It is my intention that wearing or displaying these pieces will be an empowering inspiration to you as you reconnect with your inner goddess.

Yes! I've used high quality professional textile paint which is washing machine and light resistant. In a wash machine use up to 30 degrees C. For best results, wash them gently, by hand or delicates program, with mild detergent, in lukewarm water, to slow down natural wear and tear. If you have them hanging on your wall, just rinse the panties to remove dust, once or twice a year. Iron from reverse side on a cotton setting.
